With Bahrain’s most recent commitments to the climate goals and specially to reach net zero by 2060, key strategies are anchored in the implementation of the National Afforestation Plan (2022\-2035\) and its goal to increase the tree count from 1\.8 million trees to 3\.6 million by 2035, as well as quadruple the mangrove area. UN\-Habitat is supporting these efforts in several ways, including through building capacities, developing tools for the design of the urban environment as well as raising awareness. The overall goal of our work is to support the transition towards more sustainable and climate\-adapted urban systems, and to improve environmental quality by increasing the quality and use of green public spaces with direct effects on the health and wellbeing of the residents in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In implementing its projects, UN\-Habitat and its experts work with key Government institutions to plan, coordinate, implement, and support various activities related to the national programmes. The primary beneficiaries include government authorities and experts, decision\-makers, as well as the general public whose awareness is raised and living conditions improved. Responsibilities The intern will work under the supervision of the Head of Country Programme in Bahrain and project managers. He/she will engage on a regular basis with relevant institutions, partners, researchers, to ensure the activities are developed with the inputs of all relevant partners. The intern will be requested to perform the following duties and responsibilities: 1\. Understand the urban context in Bahrain and become familiar with the project portfolio of UN\-Habitat and its objectives. 2\. Assist in the compilation and review of available data and documentation related to the urban afforestation in Bahrain and other relevant areas of work as needed (parks and public spaces, land use, urban density, etc). 3\. Support the development of the National\-wide Afforestation and Public Spaces Assessment, guidelines, baseline studies, mapping, etc. 4\. Support the data collection on public spaces, smart cities applications as needed. 5\. Help with visual design work, mapping, and drawings and urban analysis. 6\. Work alongside the team to share input for awareness\-raising campaigns and contribute to community engagement events and trainings. 7\. Aid in the preparation of reports and presentations, taking notes as needed. Provide support and help as necessary in the preparation of new projects and assist in preparing information briefs, presentations and administrative papers work for these new projects. Qualifications/special skills Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
